what this video and it is the only workout video i can find of chris evans training with weights shows is how he was already a fitness freak to begin with.
what chris evans changed for the captain america body?
chris evans basically says he added more protein to his diet, protein from various sources but mostly meat sources and worked out more.
this was to add the extra bulk he needed to be able to accurately portray the captain america look and build, as in the comic books captain america is seen as being quite stocky and well built.

when it comes to what chris evans did before filming captain america film it is very vague, whats funny is that chris evans had to lose weight first to play the part of the skinny soldier who was too frail to join the army.
this why in the film chris evans as steve rodgers volunteers to be changed into captain america the first avenger, via a machine that changes his body with vita rays, this is what changes steve rodgers into captain america with super powers.
so for the skinny scenes they had to use cgi because chris evans could not get thin enough, but for captain american steve rodgers, chris evans needed to gain over 20 pounds of muscle, which he managed to do.
this was achieved via the advice of a top personal trainer lots of training and a diet high in protein, though chris evans already had a good physique to begin with so the body transformation into captain america will not of been as impossible, as if he had been starting out as never worked out or trained his body before.
this film does look really good, high action type of film.

so for steve rodgers captain america there was cgi used to make him look smaller and thinner, i wonder if they used cgi as well to make him look bigger in the shirtless scenes in the film when captain america had been inside the super soldier machine.
as far as chris evans goes he says it was the toughest training and working out he has done to get into the best possible shape for captain america, he says that he usually likes working out, but for the film he got sick of it, as he was not weight training for fun but to try and force some serious muscle gain.
so chris evans had to push his weight training and bodybuilding type workouts to his limits.
but sometimes with weight training and bodybuilding more is not always best as you also have to be wary of injuries when working out and training hard so need to listen to your body, and not always push to the limits all the time, as you also need to avoid injuries in order to be able to keep working out and building muscle, you can't workout if you get injured.
so i would think not to try to emulate the build people like chris evans got to play captain america, as in try to get there too quickly, but give yourself a good few years of steady weight lifting and bodybuilding to try and get your physique like that.
because first with bodybuilding and working out you need to learn how to do all the exercises properly and how to have a good diet, then you need to get your routines together that work best for you, so it takes a while to get good at working out and learning about proper exercise technique and so on.
remember chris evans has been working out for a lot of years and did not just build the captain america style physique in 4 months, he basically just filled out his body in 4 months through big eating and training, but the muscle was already essentially there through all his years of training and keeping in shape.
